FAQs

Being in the gutter cleaning business since 2001 means we have cleaned a lot of gutters - and answered a lot of questions about gutters and gutter cleaning. Here are answers to the most common ones we receive. If you don't see an answer here, contact us.

Why do I have to clean my gutters?

Gutters and downspouts are designed to do one thing: carry rainwater safely away from your home so it cannot do dmage to your roof, walls, basement, paint, landscaping, and other surfaces. They cannot do this if they are clogged with leaves, twigs, bird's nests, toys, roof grit, or mud.

How often should I have the gutter cleaning service?

In most parts of the country, twice a year is recommended. Once in the spring and again in the late fall. If your home has a lot of trees it may require an additonal cleaning in the late fall or winter to prevent problems.

What does gutter cleaning service include?

It includes clearing the gutter channels and downspouts of any obstructions, inspecting and tightening hangers, clearing the roof of leaves and debris nearest to the gutters, and bagging up all of the debris so it can be taken away or left for yoru regualr trash service. Our technicians also take before and after photos of your job for recordkeeping and provide information to the owner if there are any issues they find with the system.

How do I know if my gutters are clogged?

If it has been six months or more since your last cleaning it is reasonable to assume that they are clogged somewhere along the line. You can always tell they are clogged when it rains and waterfalls appear along the gutters or at corners. Black streaks on the outer surface of the gutters or on walls just below the gutters is also a sign that they are clogged and have overflowed. Seeing large amounts of pest like mosquitoes, wasps, or rodents near the gutters means they are clogged and there is water trapped - which they are attracted to.

I have gutter guards. Do I still have to clean my gutters?

The simple answer is YES - and even the companies that sell gutter guards and screens will tell you that. Leaves and objects will cover the top of the guards making them useless until they are cleared. Small debris, roof grit, and blowing dirt also go stright through guards and screens and can cause clogs.

What happens if I don't have my gutters cleaned?

Eventually, clogged gutters will become so heavy that they will pull away from their hangers and the roof edge and they will fall off - causing any sort of expensive damage. But before that, clogged gutters will overflow causing expensive, hard to manage problems for your home including basement flooding, cracked walls, peeling paint, woodwork rot, attic leaks, and pest infestations as well as mold and mildew. Any one of hese problems will cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars to deal with or repair - significantly more than professional gutter cleaning service from We Get Gutters Clean.

Can't I just clean the gutters myself?

You could - but we in no way recommend that you do. Gutter cleaning is dangerous due to climbing and working on tall ladders or the surface of the roof. It is not a place for a homeowner to be working. Ladder accidents and falls are serious and they do happen to homeowners all the time. Gutter cleaning is not like lawn care.

Then how much does gutter cleaning service cost?

An average, single story home will run between $129 and $249 depending on a few things including how long it has been since the last cleaning, are gutter guards or screens installed, and if there is a detached garage. Two story homes start at $229. Our fast and free quotes are available anytime, without a home appointment and no credit card is required. Get you quote started now.
